Experience the luxurious simplicity of ghee rice cooked with coconut milk. Fragrant basmati rice infused with rich ghee and creamy coconut milk creates a divine dish, perfect for elevating any meal. Ghee rice is one of my comfort foods. It goes very well with my Vegetable Kurma and potato chips (or crisps!). It’s a pot of flavorful yumminess which is very simple to make and tastes delicious.

Ghee Rice
This simple yet delicious rice dish pairs perfectly with Vegetable Kurma and a side of potato chips. With easy steps and aromatic flavors, it's a comfort food favorite. You can elevate it further by adding paneer, cashews, and raisins for an extra touch of richness.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Basmati Rice
- 2 tbsp Ghee
- 1 Onion (big) thinly sliced
- 2 Green Chili cut into halves
- 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
- 3/4 cup Thin Coconut milk
- 1 cup Water
- 1 tsp Salt
Seasoning
- 1 inch Cinnamon
- 2 Bay leaf
- 2 Clove
- 2 Cardamon pods
Instructions
Now, lets cook!
- Soak Basmati rice for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, heat ghee in a pan, add the whole masalas under seasoning.
- Saute for a minute and add green chillies, sliced onions, and fry till translucent.
- Then add the ginger garlic paste and sauté well.
- Add the soaked and drained rice and fry well without breaking the rice for 3 minutes in medium flame.
- Add coconut milk and water, salt and mix well and let it boil.
- Once it starts boiling, keep the pan covered in low flame till rice is cooked. It will take approximately 15 minutes. The whole area will be filled with a nice aroma and your kids will be extra hungry that meal.
Tip
- Can add small cubes of paneer at the end when the rice is cooked. I usually cut paneer and let it soak in hot water for couple of minutes and add it to the recipe so it is soft and tasty.
- Add roasted cashews and raisins for extra richness to the flavorful ghee rice.
